The Aquarium of the Pacific is pleased to announce a new scholarship program that will award funds to support African American students who demonstrate a commitment to studies related to careers in the aquarium field, including ocean education, animal husbandry, water quality, building maintenance or facilities, microbiology, and business management. Through this program, we hope to bring meaningful opportunities in the marine sciences to African American students and to give us all the benefits of bringing diverse minds to solving the issues facing our planet.
Award recipients will be selected by a committee made of Aquarium staff and members of the community. Recipients will be notified by December 31, 2020.
Awards will be paid out in increments (for example a four-year award would receive one quarter of the funds granted in year one of the program). The recipients will also be invited to the Aquarium to participate in presentations, meetings and other activities during the duration of the program.
The committee is in discussions on determining the number and amounts of the awards and logistics on the implementation. This information will be posted once confirmed. If you have questions regarding the application or eligibility requirements, please email AfricanAmericanScholar@LBAOP.ORG.
