Cassie and Chris’ wedding at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, KY
I am always so excited when I get to shoot at new wedding or event venue. There is definitely something to be said about shooting a location repeatedly; when you know a venue very well, you already have a good idea about what works and what doesn't, secret sneak-away spots, lighting conditions that vary by the time of day or year, etc. I've had the good fortune to shoot many weddings at the Louisville Science Center because of a great networking relationship I've enjoyed with them over time, for example, or the Mellwood Creative Arts Center in Louisville is another spot I know through and through because I had a studio space there for several years.
This year has been quite different in that I've had the opportunity to shoot at several new places, and it has been such a great experience. (Be on the lookout for upcoming entries from 2 different wineries, I've just blogged about Danielle and Brad's newly-renovated Belle of Louisville wedding, and also coming soon will be Laura and Danny's wedding in one of the most beautiful churches in the city). Cassie and Chris's wedding, featured here, was at the Buffalo Trace Distillery just outside of Frankfort, KY. I was excited about the new experience beforehand, after checking out the website, but when I got there it exceeded even those high expectations. Literally, there was not a bad direction to point the camera. The landscaping was beautiful, the distillery warehouses were quintessential Kentucky scenery, and the event venue where the reception was held was a completely charming log cabin. I was seriously wishing for an extra couple of hours, at least, to just go romping around the grounds shooting photos with the wedding party, even in the ever present heat of this past summer (anyone notice a recurring theme in oh, about the last ten or so entries? You might have picked up on the fact that this summer was hot. Just a little.)
I don't really think I need any more words to describe what an awesome venue this is for the wedding; without meaning to sound too proud, I do believe the pictures speak for themselves. I love the wide angle panorama that shows the ceremony under the canopy of that huge old tree, in front of the cabin. But oh my gosh--what fun we had when we got to shoot inside one of the warehouses. Overall, I would give Buffalo Trace my highest recommendation to any future brides still searching for a good venue in the area. Absolutely everything about this wedding was top-notch and insanely gorgeous to boot.
After the delicious country dinner and plenty of fine bourbon flowing, this party wasn't slow to get started. What a great bunch of people, and no one was shy about the dance floor. Weddings like this are a big part of why I love, love, love what I do so much. I am so grateful to Cassie and Chris for allowing me to document the awesome memories of their wedding. This was an all-around great day, great party, and wonderful group family and friends celebrating life and love, Kentucky style!
