Engagement session in Bernheim forest, Kentucky
I just love Bernheim forest. It is such a jewel nestled in my very favorite area in this whole region--the knobs and hills of Bullitt and Nelson Counties. I love the landscape; perfectly sculpted little mini-mountains, beautiful forests of trees blooming with native dogwood and redbud every spring, and also the distilleries and bourbon warehouses that pop up every so often in the vista. People from other areas of the state would likely have their own opinions, but to me, this region is one of two that I believe hold the quintessential version of Kentucky beauty. (The other would be the Cumberland Plateau region, just north of the Tennessee border in the south/central part of the state). I've said many times that if I were to ever relocate to the country or a smaller town, it would be the area around Bardstown in Nelson County, Kentucky. What a lovely place overall.
Abby and Michael were the first of 2 engagement sessions I did early in the morning at Bernheim. As I mentioned in a previous entry, scheduling so early helped immensely with the heat factor, and the light was absolutely delicious. And speaking of favorite locations, Abby and Michael's wedding is happening at another one of my favorite areas--Stumler Orchard and Winery in Starlight, Indiana. I have not been to Stumler's yet, but I am a frequent visitor at nearby Huber's Farm, and the entire countryside there is unbelievably beautiful. I just took the kids up there the other day to pick blueberries, and enjoyed a most delicious blackberry sangria. Yum!
Abby and Michael were such good sports. I don't know how many times he swung her around in circles for me; she is such an adorable petite little thing, and I thought it would make a fun series. I might have asked one too many times, though, which I realized as they were both standing there with their hands on their knees :) We noticed on our way in that the Bullitt County Fairgrounds were set up; the fair must have been that week. So we snuck in there quickly after shooting at Bernheim, for a few fun carnival shots. Not much action there at 9 or so am, but we still got our shots and left quickly, wary of being chased off by sleepy carnies, ha ha...
Lastly, speaking of Bernheim, this Pecha Kucha sounds like the coolest event. I'll go by myself if I can't find anyone else to go with me :)
Keep an eye out for the design for Abby and Michael's guest book they are having designed with these photos! I'm so excited!

As always, I’m completely amazed at the photos. And so jealous that you can’t be here to take pics of Diego and me.
