wedding photographer needs Apple iPad

The other day I got the opportunity to torture myself by playing around with the latest hot gadget from Apple, the iPad.  Stupid name aside (seriously, couldn't they have come up with something better?), I loved it.  I absolutely could not live without my iPhone, and the iPad (I'm going to have to think of a nickname if I ever get one) is just an xxxxxxxxL version of that.  I was especially pleased to see that my website looks great on it.  I assumed it would, since it comes up nicely on my iPhone, but it looked even better than expected on the larger format (see, I'm coming up with clever ways to keep from having to type it's name so often).

Since the screen is so much bigger than the iPhone, the photo application is so cool and very handy for showing off photography.  I'm usually meeting clients out of a studio these days, so the question always comes up about how I'm going to present my photos. I try to keep my website updated as soon as possible with all my latest work, and I always tell prospective clients to keep checking on my blog for new work, or to  jump back through the pages to see my entire portfolio.  Obviously, I'm not going to cart a huge suitcase full of prints and albums into your home or the corner coffee shop, so my only other option is to bring a laptop.  Which is fine, if mine weren't always so sticky from little fingers playing Sonic Hedgehog games on it.  But even aside from that, (and forgetting the name), the iPad is just plain cool.  Sexy, even.  And the slideshow function is perfect for doing a presentation of my portfolio.  Did I mention that I want one?

Going further, the virtual keyboard is simple and fun to use; I had no problem typing on it.  So in a meeting with clients, it would be so handy to fill in their data/info/wedding dates in my studio management software, present a client right there on the screen, and then emailing the document with a tap of the screen (I'd wait for the 3g, of course).  The 3g has a GPS system that would very handily replace my old never updated Garmin, as well...hmmm.  This is turning into a business necessity decision, right?

So...did I mention that my birthday is in August?  Well, it is.  Just sayin'.
