Wedding season 2010 has started! Yay!
I've been wanting to do "teaser" blog posts for a long time, where I will showcase 1-3 photographs from a very recent wedding. The point is to preview a few bits and pieces of the day in general, and begin telling the story of the wedding in order to generate excitement for the bride, groom, and their guests to see the rest of the photographs. So what better time to do this than with my first wedding of the year? Seems like a great time for a "New Year's" resolution, except applying it to the new wedding season.
There are so many things I am excited to share about Katie and Cory's wedding, beginning with the happy "accident" that allowed us to work together. They booked with me under a bit of an unusual circumstance; their first wedding photographer cancelled on them very close to the actual date (but a quick note--their photographer was a college student and friend, so at least it wasn't another professional who just left them hanging in the lurch. Before I learned that, I was very prepared to be quite angry at whatever Louisville photographer would act so unprofessionally, because that gives all of us a bad name). On my side, I had a wedding booked for that day, but the bride and groom contacted me in February to tell me they are rescheduling their wedding, but don't have a new date planned yet. I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to rebook the day, but I had pretty much given up on it as it came closer and closer. Well, what a great coincidence for both of us, and a wonderful way for a potentially bad situation to have a very happy ending. They needed a photographer, and I needed a wedding! I must say that we were all extremely grateful to find each other :) And I do owe my sincere thanks to friends at another wonderful photography studio here in Louisville for the referral.
When the rest of Katie and Cory's photographs are posted, I will have lots to tell about so many special little touches, ingenious and unique ideas, and beautiful hand-crafted details that Katie and her mother put together for the wedding and reception. I peruse wedding blogs very often, both planning and photography sites, but almost all of these unique details were brand new to me. I can't wait to share the photos and her ideas. She also kept a wedding blog, with all kinds of fun and useful information--definitely not your typical template style wedding blog with all the usual questions and answers. She posted photos she liked, crafts she was working on for decorations, interviews and profiles of the wedding party, fun little facts and updates, and so much more. Although I didn't meet Katie until her actual wedding day, through Facebook and keeping up with her blog, I really felt like I knew her before we actually met. Katie's mom, Julia, is an absolute sweetheart, and she was my main contact before the wedding. I feel really fortunate to add this wonderful family to my circle of friends/clients (I love how that line gets blurred). :)
The church, St. Luke's Episcopal in Anchorage on the outskirts of Louisville was gorgeous. Incredible. The entire party took place there, from ceremony through dinner and the reception, and I never felt like we lacked any variety in finding locations for the photos. This church is an absolute gem, and if any brides out there are looking for a location, I would highly recommend this one. Another teaser--I'll have photos in the complete post.
And lastly, after what seems like the last 40 days and 40 nights of living in Seattle rather than Louisville with all the grey weather and rain, that Saturday dawned amazingly, perfectly beautiful and remained so all day. It was hot, but now oppressively so, there was a nice breeze and beautiful clouds in the sky, but best of all, NO RAIN! It really was a total blessing of a day all around.
Stay tuned! I can't wait to show off their wedding story!
