Commute – my tumblr iphone blog

So to continue my ramblings on my love affair with my iPhone camera and apps, I have a few more varied thoughts to share:

* I have been doing an ongoing project that I call, simply, "Commute", because they are nothing more than quick snaps I take as I drive about town, mostly on the way either taking or picking up my children from school and daycare. I take slight variations on the same route every day, and it amazes me how many different things I see each day, even passing by the very same locations I have many times before. Even the most obvious landmarks and features can look so different depending on the light, the weather, the time of day, the traffic, my processing, and an infinite number of other variables. For me, the project started out as a way to pass the time on a very long drive I have to make every single weekday. However, it has evolved into an exercise of intense seeing, really looking hard at the things I pass. Some of the photos are more mundane, some I would even call spectacular, but the real benefit to the project really isn't even the photos themselves, but within myself, practicing and training my eye to see things in a new, more interesting, and more inspiring way. I love this project, and the fact that there are real, tangible benefits to doing it (for me, advancing my craft and eye) is a great bonus on top of being just fun to do.

* I discovered Tumblr not long ago, and I LOVE this blog format. It is such an incredibly easy way to share just about anything, whether it be a journal, photographs, music, or even just random things you find on the internet (or other Tumblr blogs) that you really like. It is so simple to use compared to any other blog format I've tried. In order to have a venue for all these iPhone photos I've been taking (I've got a zillion, and the number just keeps growing), a dear friend set up a Tumblr blog just for my iPhone shots. So far, the only ones I've posted are from the "Commute" series, but that will change as my interest dictates.
My Tumblr can be found at klphy.tumblr.com. Take a look and let me know what you think!

* Another super-cool thing about Tumblr -- you can set it up to re-post immediately on your facebook page, if you wish. So you can use the Tumblr blog as the origin and an archive, so to speak, and not have to worry about taking time to share with your facebook friends too -- it will automatically do it for you. The neat thing is, when the photo (or whatever kind of post) is clicked, the viewer is directed to the Tumblr site, where they can continue to peruse your work without all the other facebook distractions.

* The same friend who set up the Tumblr blog for me found the coolest little application that you can do with all your Tumblr photos. Check it out here: tmv.proto.jp/#id=klphy. Now, how flippin' cool is that?

* Which leads to the last thought--Not only would a Tumblr blog be a great way for brides to keep an online journal about their wedding (all the way from the planning stage to honeymoon photos), wouldn't it be fun to have all your wedding guests submit their photos from your wedding (or shower, parties, etc), post them to your blog, and then make a cool mosaic from them? (Like the link above, if you didn't click :) )
